Wake up in the morning
And there you are,
Nestled in my brain,
Warm and sleeping.
Just where I left you
The night before,
Settled into the blankets of my mind.
And in waking hours, a twirl of you
Dances across the folds,
Drags the heart to attention,
And lets rivers run red,
Pounding in my veins,
Driving every step forward.
Even at your most invisible,
You lie in my chest,
A lingering hug,
Holding me close in the dark.
And all the body feels
Is content.
But it’s when you crawl in the fabric,
Burrow yourself deep,
Weave your fingers in mine,
That’s where I want to stay.
To sleep, to love, to dream.
